This custom yacht model of Copihue was commissioned by her owner — his second scale model ordered from Polaris Models after being impressed by the craftsmanship of the first.
Built with access to the original yacht plans, the Copihue model was developed through a meticulous blend of heritage craftsmanship and modern precision. Traditional skills were elevated by advanced techniques such as 3D modelling, laser cutting, and fine engraving — allowing for exceptional accuracy at every stage.
Pear wood was carefully selected for the cockpit and decking, chosen for its warm tone and fine texture. Most metal fittings were machined from steel using a precision lathe, while finer elements were crafted from photoetched brass. The stainless steel railings were polished to a mirror finish, echoing the refined elegance of the yacht itself.
This project reflects our core philosophy: combining timeless model making artistry with the capabilities of today’s most precise tools.
The finished model of Copihue was delivered and installed in the owner’s private office — a fitting setting for such a distinctive piece. Mr Crader’s response was one of genuine delight, reflecting the level of detail, craftsmanship, and care invested throughout the process.
This bespoke model now serves not only as a centrepiece, but as a lasting tribute to one of the most elegant sailing yachts afloat.
