Commissioned by Geoff Moore on behalf of West Nautical, this bespoke scale model of Octopus was created for one of the world’s most recognisable and iconic yachts.
West Nautical is a leading luxury yacht brokerage and management firm, specialising in yacht sales, charter, and full-service operations for an international clientele of discerning owners and investors.
This commission focused on the creation of a luxurious, museum-quality scale model designed to command attention in a premium office setting and captivate audiences at international yacht shows.
We proposed a model of Octopus — the legendary 126-metre megayacht built by Lürssen — chosen for its unrivalled presence, iconic profile, and celebrated role in modern superyacht history. With twin helipads, expansive decks, advanced exploration capabilities, and a bold architectural form, Octopus is not just a vessel but a statement of power, prestige, and engineering mastery.
Its rich history and instantly recognisable silhouette made it the ideal subject to represent maritime innovation at the highest level — combining sophistication, scale, and striking visual impact in model form.
Due to the limited technical documentation available for Octopus, the project began with an extensive research phase. Our team carefully analysed photographs, design references, and public specifications to reconstruct the yacht’s architecture with as much accuracy as possible. Leveraging our expertise in naval architecture and advanced modelling, we developed a fully detailed 3D CAD model — capturing every structural and aesthetic element with precision.
Large-scale components and many intricate details were produced using high-resolution 3D printing, allowing us to maintain exact proportions and clean geometry. For critical elements demanding enhanced realism and structural strength, we integrated premium materials such as brass and stainless steel. Each part was individually post-processed and finished by hand, ensuring seamless joins, flawless surfaces, and durability throughout.
The model’s sleek profile and signature lines were brought to life through expert paintwork and detailing, completed to the highest standard. Once finished, the Octopus model was mounted on a custom-designed base and enclosed in a tailor-made acrylic display case — providing both secure protection and an elegant presence in any luxury interior or exhibition setting.
The Octopus project required several hundred hours of meticulous design, engineering, and hand-finishing — a process that demanded both technical precision and artistic sensitivity.
Seeing the completed model revealed the true reward of that effort. As light moved across the sculpted surfaces and subtle contours, the yacht’s presence was unmistakable — not only captured in form, but in spirit. The final piece stands as a respectful and refined tribute to one of the most iconic vessels ever built, balancing scale and detail with quiet confidence.
More than a display model, Octopus represents a deeper achievement: the ability to evoke power, sophistication, and legacy through craftsmanship. It remains one of the most meaningful builds in our collection — a testament to what can be achieved when design and dedication meet.
