Commissioned by Geoff Moore on behalf of West Nautical, this custom scale model of the Oyster 885 was created to represent one of Oyster Yachts’ most iconic bluewater cruisers.
West Nautical is an international luxury yacht brokerage and management firm, renowned for its expertise in yacht sales, charter, and bespoke ownership services tailored to a discerning global clientele.
This commission centred on the creation of a luxurious and highly detailed scale replica of the Oyster 885 — a model designed to make a commanding impression in refined office interiors and at prestigious international boat shows.
The Oyster 885 was selected for its status as one of the most celebrated bluewater cruisers ever built. As the flagship of the Oyster fleet, it embodies a rare balance of elegance, ocean-going capability, and cutting-edge design. Its raised saloon profile, flowing hull lines, and distinctive deck configuration make it a particularly striking subject for scale modelling — offering both technical complexity and strong visual presence.
This commission formed part of a broader initiative to present a curated collection of high-end yacht models, each representing a unique facet of the luxury maritime world. The inclusion of the Oyster 885 allowed us to showcase the sailing yacht category at its pinnacle — beautifully engineered, performance-driven, and unmistakably refined — alongside select motor yachts and superyachts within the larger project scope.
Creating this luxury sailing yacht model required a highly involved and technical process, combining extensive research, advanced digital modelling, and expert craftsmanship. Unlike some of our other commissions, this project began with limited technical documentation. To overcome this, our team conducted thorough research — gathering visual references, specifications, and design details from a wide range of sources to fully understand the Oyster 885’s architecture, proportions, and character.
From this foundation, we developed a fully detailed 3D CAD model, designed to account for every visible and internal feature of the yacht. The precision of this digital blueprint was critical — not only to replicate the yacht’s flowing lines and raised saloon profile, but to ensure seamless integration between materials, production methods, and assembled components.
Structural parts and complex elements were manufactured using high-resolution 3D printing, allowing us to capture intricate forms and exact proportions with clarity and consistency. Where greater realism, metallic finish, or mechanical strength was required, we incorporated high-grade materials such as brass and stainless steel — adding both authenticity and durability to the final build.
The Oyster 885’s distinctive decking was a focal point. To replicate the yacht’s wooden finish, we used precision laser engraving on real wood veneer, producing depth, texture, and a refined tactile quality. Each element — no matter how small — was hand-finished, sanded, and assembled with extreme care, ensuring flawless surfaces and invisible joins throughout.
The model was then painted and detailed to the highest standard, with colour-matching and surface polishing reflecting the vessel’s understated elegance and bluewater pedigree. Finally, it was mounted on a custom-designed display base and enclosed in a tailor-made acrylic case, offering both protection and a striking visual presentation — ideal for executive interiors or international yacht showcases.
This project stands as a testament to the expertise required in producing truly bespoke sailing yacht models and reinforces our commitment to delivering museum-quality replicas that honour the essence of every vessel we are entrusted to represent.
The final result of this luxury sailing yacht model exceeded expectations, delivering a piece that delighted both our client and our team. At Polaris Models, we’ve long admired the Oyster brand, so it was a genuine privilege to create a scale replica of one of its most celebrated flagship vessels.
To ensure flawless presentation and secure delivery, the model was packed in a custom-engineered black transport crate, designed for maximum strength and stability. The crate featured the client’s branding prominently on the main panel — reinforcing both corporate identity and display value. This robust solution not only protects the model during transit but ensures longevity through future handling and storage.
Now complete and professionally prepared, the Oyster 885 model is ready to impress — whether installed in an executive office or showcased at an international yacht event. Its elegant profile, sharp detailing, and refined presence naturally attract attention, spark conversation, and elevate any environment where luxury yachting is appreciated.
More than just a display piece, this model serves as a powerful asset for client engagement — embodying the spirit of bespoke yacht ownership and the enduring appeal of Oyster’s bluewater legacy.
