Client: EPSCO — specialists in offshore and energy-sector solutions
Commissioned by EPSCO Scotland, specialists in water system cleanliness and hygiene management for the offshore and marine industries. With decades of expertise, EPSCO delivers solutions that ensure the safety, compliance, and operational efficiency of potable water systems on vessels, offshore platforms, and energy installations worldwide. Their commitment to technical excellence and industry best practice has made them a trusted partner to leading names in oil, gas, and marine operations.
EPSCO Scotland entrusted us to create a highly detailed scale model of the Skandi Carla — an advanced offshore support vessel — for prominent display in their headquarters lobby. The client provided extensive reference materials, including 2D technical drawings, from which our team developed precise 3D design models to guide construction.
The finished piece was to be presented on a custom-built, self-standing plinth, designed to complement the corporate setting, and protected by a bespoke glass cover to ensure both visibility and preservation.
To achieve the highest levels of quality and precision, the original 2D technical drawings of the Skandi Carla were converted into a fully detailed 3D CAD model at the chosen scale. Every component was designed to the smallest detail, with all tolerances between different manufacturing processes and materials carefully calculated to ensure seamless joins and a flawless finish.
Production relied primarily on 3D printing and laser cutting for structural and detailed parts. Fine fittings such as railings and ladders were produced in brass using photo-etching technology. Each component was post-processed, assembled, and finished by hand, with the entire model spray-painted to the highest standards to match the vessel’s real-world appearance.
The finished model incorporates a variety of materials — including engineering composites, stainless steel, brass, resin, plastic, and wood — chosen for their durability, accuracy, and presentation quality. To enhance the display, a scale helicopter was fabricated to complement the vessel’s operational profile, and all three onboard cranes were faithfully reproduced.
Finally, the completed model was installed on a custom-built, free-standing plinth and enclosed in a bespoke display case designed to protect and showcase this elaborate offshore vessel model.
The completed Skandi Carla model was delivered and installed by our team at EPSCO Scotland’s Aberdeen office. The company’s staff responded with immediate enthusiasm, gathering to admire the model and its intricate details.
While we were proud of the result, the real satisfaction came from witnessing their warm and genuine reaction on site. Moments like these highlight the value of our work — not only in achieving technical precision but in creating pieces that resonate with clients and celebrate their connection to the vessels they operate.
