Every ship model restoration project begins with understanding the model and its current condition. Whether you are looking for boat model restoration, ship model repair or simply want to restore a ship model that has been in your family for years, every quotation is prepared individually. Some models require only careful cleaning and minor repairs, while others may have deteriorated rigging, damaged sails, cracked hulls or missing details that need more extensive restoration.

To provide the most accurate initial estimate, we ask for a description of the model together with clear photographs and, where possible, a short video. The more information and reference images we receive, the more accurately we can assess the restoration work involved. Once we have reviewed everything, we prepare an initial estimate and, if you decide to proceed, carry out a detailed workshop inspection before issuing a final quotation and timeframe.

Getting in Touch

The first step is simply to contact us by email or telephone. During our initial discussion we will ask a few questions about your model, including its approximate dimensions, age if known, and the areas you believe require attention. Even if you are unsure of the exact problems, we can usually identify them during the assessment.

Photos, Videos & Reference Information

To prepare an accurate initial estimate, we ask for clear photographs and, where possible, a short video of the model. Please include overall photographs from a distance so we can assess the model’s general condition, together with images from every side and angle.

Close-up photographs of any damaged areas are equally important, including broken rigging, torn sails, loose fittings, cracked hulls, damaged planking, lifting copper sheathing or missing components. The more detailed the photographs and information you provide, the more accurate your initial ship model restoration or boat model restoration quotation will be.

Initial Estimate

Once we receive your photographs and description, we carefully review every image to assess the likely restoration work involved. From this, we prepare an initial estimate that gives you a realistic indication of the expected cost before the model is transported to our workshop.

Workshop Inspection

If you are happy with the initial estimate, the model is delivered to our workshop for a detailed inspection. Every part of the model is carefully examined to assess its overall condition and identify any hidden issues that cannot be detected from photographs alone.

Once the inspection is complete, we prepare a detailed restoration report, a fixed quotation and an estimated completion timeframe. These documents explain the recommended ship model restoration or boat model restoration work and are sent to you for final approval before any restoration begins.

During the Restoration

Thanks to our experience, most restoration challenges can be identified during the inspection. However, older ship and boat models occasionally reveal hidden issues once work has begun, such as weakened internal structures or previous repairs concealed beneath the surface. Although this is uncommon, if additional work becomes necessary we always discuss our findings with you before proceeding, ensuring there are no unexpected decisions made without your approval.

Giving Your Model a Second Life

Every ship or boat model tells a story, whether it has been passed down through generations, commissioned for a special occasion or displayed in a corporate office. With the right care, ship model restoration and boat model restoration can preserve that story for many years to come.

Regular inspection and maintenance help identify small issues before they become major repairs. This is particularly important for antique ship models, historic models and older wooden models, where ageing materials, drying adhesives and environmental changes can gradually weaken the structure without obvious visible signs. Professional inspections can often detect these early stages of deterioration, allowing the model to be preserved before significant damage occurs.

Whether your model requires a simple repair, routine maintenance or a complete restoration, investing in its care today helps ensure it can be enjoyed and appreciated by future generations.
